Abstract The present study was conducted to evaluate the antigenic similarity between Adult Schistosoma mansoni and different Egyptian fresh water snails (Biomphalaria alexandrina, Biomphalaria glabrata, Lymnea natalensis and Physa acuta ) from the aspect of molecular weights using SDS-PAGE, followed by western blot technique to visualize their immunogenicity and cross-reactivity. The value of the tested Ags in immunodiagnosis of intestinal schistosomiasis was evaluated from the aspects of sensitivity and specificity by ELISA technique using both human sera and rat hyperimmune sera. Schistosoma mansoni Adult worm collection from 15 albino laboratory bred mice 8 weeks after experimental infection with Schistosoma mansoni cercariae by portomesenteric perfusion was done, followed by Schistosoma mansoni whole worm antigen preparation. Foot and visceral parts of the tested snails were separated and processed for crude antigen preparation. Hyperimmune rat sera for the tested antigens were prepared for western blot & ELISA, in addition to collection and preparation of infected and non infected human serum samples |
