Abstract The research evaluated the methane production from the Egyptian agriculture wastes (rice straw, cotton stalks) co-digestion with cow dung and studies the effects of various pretreatments including KOH, CaO, urea with different concentration on rice straw and cotton stalks. In order to decrease the losses in both chemicals and biomass constituents, only dry treatments are recommended. The batch anaerobic digestion at mesophilic conditions was used. The results showed that the alkali pretreatment was proven to be an efficient pretreatment technique for rice straw and cotton stalks. XRD, FTIR and SEM analyses had shown that pretreated R.S and CS had favorable structural changes |
