Abstract Purpose: The present study was conducted to compare the functional recovery in Erb{u2019}s palsy infants after surgical and non surgical intervention. Subjects and Methods: The current study was conducted on thirty infants with Erb’s palsy, whose ages ranged from 6 to 12 months. They were randomly divided into two equal groups. group (A): included fifteen infants who had Erb{u2019}s palsy (C5, C6 and C7 upper arm type) according to nerve conduction study (NCS) and received surgery to repair the brachial plexus. group (B) included fifteen infants who had Erb{u2019}s palsy (C5, C6 and C7 upper arm type) according to nerve conduction study (NCS) and the brachial plexus was not surgically repaired. Both groups received twenty four weeks of designed physical therapy program which include facilitation of weak muscles, hand weight bearing exercise and stretching of tightened muscles. Both groups were evaluated before and after treatment using active movement scale (AMS) and Peabody developmental motor scale (PDMS-2) to evaluate function of the upper limb by using tow subtest grasping and visual motor integration from (PDMS-2). Results: The obtained results of the present study indicated significant improvement of all measured variables after twenty four weeks of treatment program in participated infants of both groups compared to the results before treatment. Comparing the post-treatment results of groups (A and B) revealed significant improvement in the mean values of all measured variables in favor of group (A) |
