Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is one of the most common diseases of aging men, it can be associated with bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) that affect quality of life. A wide range of treatment methods have been introduced. but When surgical treatment is considered, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is still the gold standard. However TURP still has its share of complications which led to emergence of new minimally invasive techniques to minimize the risks associated with the procedure,the most commonly used of these techniques is the lasers and trans urethral vaporization of the prostate Despite the good results and minimal rate of complications associated with lasers the cost of these procedure represent an obstacle to its use worldwide also the steep learning curve of some of these procedures, restricts the technique to rather few centers. Bipolar resection of the prostate combines the low morbidity and the affordable cost which presents the major drawback of laser procedures,especially when it can achieve similar results to TURP in improving the patients prostate symptom score urinary flow rate and reduction in residual urine volume symptomatology leading to more satisfying International |
