Abstract

This study was carried out at the Qaliubiya Governorate for three years to study the effect of plantation of four trees species (Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Salix viminalis, Morus alba and Ficus nitida) on one side of the three agricultural drains (Toukh, Shebein and Batanda) for absorption and accumulation of some heavy metals in the different parts of trees to decrease pollution rates of some heavy metals in agricultural water drainage in comparison with the same trees planted in one side of Shebein irrigation canal as a control treatment. The following data were recorded; stem height, stem diameter, fresh and dry weight of branches, leaves and roots, specific gravity, Zn, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, B and Ni in leaves, branches and roots in all tested tree species. Results showed that: Eucalyptus camaldulensis significantly increased in stem height, stem diameter, while Ficus nitida and Salix viminalis significantly increased in fresh and dry weight of branches, leaves and roots ( for Salix only) as compared the other two species. The highest values of specific gravity were achieved by Ficus and Salix trees, the control treatments produced the lowest values of specific gravity as compared to the agricultural drains, Salix viminalis grown at sides of Shebein and Batanda produced the highest values of specific gravity
