Abstract This dissertation aims at analyzing myth and its functions in some selected plays of Don Nigro and Raafat Al Deweri. It is a comparative reading of Don Nigro’s The Greek Trilogy, consisting of three interrelated full-length plays: Iphigenia (2006), Clytemnestra (2010) and Electra (2011) and Raafat Al Deweri’s كفر التنهدات Village of Sighs, also consisting of four interrelated full-length plays: الواغش Lice (1) (1972) , الواغش (2) Lice (2) (1973), المحقق الذى فقد عقله واسترجع ظله (كوميديا بوليسية فى أربعة محاضر The Detective Who Went Mad and Restored His Shadow (A Police Comedy in Four Interrogatories) (1974) and قطة بسبع- ت- أرواح (دراما طقسية شعبية) Cat with Seven Lives: An Egyptian Ritual Folkloric Drama (1980). |
