Abstract

Skin diseases are the fourth cause of disability worldwide, have significant impact on quality of life, productivity and mental health. The primary health care center or unite is the first gait facing patients in rural villages, The family physician has great role in early diagnosis, prevention and management of the dermatological lesions it accounts at least 15% of his consultations. This study was conducted by the family physician of SFHC to assess prevalence of various skin diseases and responsible risk factors. A cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted in Sallant village, Dakahlia, Egypt from March to June 2022. A random sample of 500 patients who attended SFHC outpatient clinics were selected and exposed to a predesigned questionnaire and clinical examination by the family physician. that composed of two parts. The questionnaire asking about: socioeconomic status, personal habits hygiene, housing conditions (sanitation& crowding), Personal medical history including dermatology, family history to same disease and to allergy. Then all clients were exposed to general and dermatological examination. Results were analyzed and revealed that 237(47.4%) of these patients had one or more type of skin diseases. Skin diseases were significantly more common in children (69.6%) and adolescents (62%) than adults (34.2%), in low-income clients and with poor personal habits and hygiene.
