Abstract Zeolite are crystalline, hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth cations, having three-dimensional structures, characterized by the ability to lose and gain water reversibly and to exchange constituent cations without major change of structure (Mumpton, 1984). Moreover, molecules have a proper size which can selectively absorb and release specific molecules by ion exchange (Shurson et al., 1984). In addition, zeolite used as a feed additive, it does not interact with other diet nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) therefore can be included in as feed and litter additives safely to improve performance of layers and broilers (Kavan et al., 2013a) to reduce toxic effects of afaltoxins (Gilani et al., 2016), to help in litter management (Eleroglu and Yalcin, 2005) and to assist in controlling air quality in poultry house (Li et al., 2008). Zeolite supplementation for broiler diet improves body weight gain and feed conversion ratio (Nikolakakis et al., 2013). |
