Abstract This study aims at investigating high school EFL Egyptian teachers{u2019} Intercultural communicative competence ICC and reports on the teachers’ knowledge, awareness, attitudes towards foreign culture besides their skills to integrate culture into their pedagogical practices. A questionnaire was administered to (102) Secondary school English teachers. Class observations and interviews were also conducted to monitor teachers{u2019} handling of cultural topics. Data collected from the questionnaire, class observation checklists and interviews were analyzed using concurrent triangulation method. The study revealed that there are positive attitudes towards considering culture in teaching among teachers. On the contrary, class observation showed the neglect of tackling the cultural aspect in EFL classes, whether native or foreign. As for awareness and knowledge, the level was slightly low. More attention is needed to enhance ICC among Egyptian secondary school teachers of English to cope with the current changes in the world. Challenges that hinder teachers from integrating culture in their pedagogical practices should be also overcome. The study suggested conceptualizing culture teaching among Egyptian EFL teachers and introduced ideas for activity hand guide to help teachers teach cultural topics meanwhile, preserving the native culture identity |
