Abstract

Background: This study compared between the conventional technique of endotracheal intubation using medan video assisted laryngoscope using a stylet as recommended by the manufactures for high curved blade video laryngoscopes versus a new technique not using a stylet concerning intubation time and the success rate. Methods and material: 25 residents in the final year of residency were included in this study, every resident was allowed to have 2 trials of intubation using medan video assisted laryngoscope on a manikin with a standardized airway, the first trial was with the standard conventional technique and the second with the new technique, Every resident was informed about the new video assisted laryngoscope to get familiar with and the standard method of intubation recommended by the manufactures then the resident was allowed to have the 2 trials, the first trial was to intubate the same manikin with normal airway that was used for all residents with the standard conventional method .The resident would then had to remove the laryngoscope and the tube from the manikin and the 2nd trial was allowed by the same resident after instructing him to reach the base of the epiglottis then withdraw the laryngoscope backward until the tip of the epiglottis is seen as a rim crescent in the upper part of the screen and then to elevate it up and laterally to open the view and try to intubate. The 2 trails of every resident in the study were classified into 2 groups according to the technique used during the trial of intubation i.e first trial for intubation by conventional technique (group 1) versus second trial for intubation by the same resident by new technique group 2
