Abstract Aim; this study aims to assess the effect of extra virgin olive oil on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line order to be used as a complementary treatment modality. Materials and methods: OSCC15 cell line was used in this study. It was divided into 3 groups 2 of which were exposed to EVOO and DOX separately while the 3rd one was left without any treatment. Then, cell viability, apoptosis, caspase 3 expression, cell cycle analysis and EGFR expression were assessed using flowcytometry and ELISA techniques Results; EVOO showed anticancer effect but less DOX. It could reduce percentage of viable cells and EGFR, enhance apoptosis and increase the expression of caspase 3. Conclusion; EVOO has a potential cytotoxic effect on OSCC cell line in dose-dependent manner. It can’t replace anticancer drugs but can be used as an adjuvant. |
