Abstract

Cirrhosis is the final stage of any chronic liver disease. It is a diffuse process characterized by fibrosis and conversion of normal architecture to structurally abnormal nodules. Decompensated cirrhosis is defined by the presence of portal hypertension and liver insufficiency (Lee Goldman and Andrew, 2012). The raised portal pressure opens up venous collaterals, connecting the portal and systemic venous systems (Dib N et al., 2006).Throughout the GI tract, changes occurring in the gastric and colonic mucosa are well documented. In the colon, the counterparts of gastroesophageal varices are anorectal and colonic varices, and changes akin to portal hypertensive gastropathy have been termed portal hypertensive colopathy (Misra SP et al., 2002; Misra V et el., 2003). However, there are only a few descriptions of changes in the small intestine (Misra V et al., 1997). 1.To study the presence of ileal varices and portal hypertensive ileopathy in patients with portal hypertension due to liver cirrhosis. 2.To correlate between ileal varices, portal hypertensive ileopathy and esophageal and gastric varices. 60 liver cirrhosis patients randomly selected The terminal ileum was visualized in them. All patients were evaluated by upper endoscopy for the presence of esophageal and gastric varices and portal hypertensive gastropathy. Colonoscopy was performed in all cases, 53 patients in the study had esophageal varices= 88.33%.Gastric varices were present in 3patients (5%). Portal hypertensive gastropathy was noted in 43 patients 71.6%
