Abstract This study examines the perceived impact of sensational Arabic television series that are broadcasted in the last three seasons by using Social Capital measurements; to study effect of aggression on Egyptian youth and development of Social Trust among their family, friends, neighbors, officials, and strangers. General Aggression Model (GAM) and Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) theory are used as theoretical framework. Previous literature reviews showed that sensational impact of aggressive television is defined through rate of violence, crime, or emotional appeals that affects viewers’ perception toward the real world; so, they turn to “artificial trust” to guarantee their personal security. Henceforth, violent television affects viewers’ social participation towards public trust, and divides societies either to high-level social trust or low-level Social Trust community. Social capital is comprehensive tool for measuring the development of communities’ characteristics of mutual benefits, common purpose, and involvement. Experimental framework for measuring social capital is reviewed in different countries for examining Social Trust rates in Egypt and set a future indicator with training-testing prediction for trust-levels among Egyptian youth. The study uses hybrid-experimental research design (Solomon-four and factorial-individual groups) of 98 participants from Egyptian youth of different demographical background, assembled from October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), and chosen from four faculties of sciences and arts specializations. The proposed study’s main hypotheses examine the relationship between television violence Social- Trust levels by using Social Capital measurements. H1: High-level trust community takes more violent decisions after exposed to violent television scenes than low-level trust community.H2: Violent scenes of Arabic television drama have stronger effect on levels of social trust among Egyptian youth than their social encounters’ effect. H3: High-level trust community is highly affected by Arabic television violent drama production within groups than individual exposure. The study is using SPSS software with the help of predictive analysis to measure the rate of social trust levels (dependent variable) among Egyptian youth after getting exposed to sensational violent scenes of Arabic television series (independent variables) from Egyptian youth actor Mohamed Ramadan. |
