Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of whole body vibration on postural sway correction in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients; sixty volunteer patients were enrolled in this study from outpatient clinic Kasr Al Ainy, they divided to two equal group in numbers, their age ranged from 45-60 years old , group A (control ) received traditional physiotherapy programand home program (walking for 20-30 minutes in days out from sessions, incentive spirometer) and group B( study) received whole body vibration and traditional physiotherapy program and home program (walking for 20-30 minutes in days out from sessions, incentive spirometer). This program was applied three times per week. Balance by Biodex, ventilatory function by Spirometry, Functional tests (time up and go test (TUG), One leg stance test (OLS)were measured for each patient before and after three months at end of the study. Results: There was significant improvement in balance(biodexML ,AP ,ST), ventilatory functions(MVV), TUG test and OLS test in study group versus control group, where the level of significance was (P<0.05). Conclusion: The whole body vibration improve balance, ventilatory functions, function mobility tests (TUG test and OLS test)in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. |
