Abstract Thesis title: Evaluation the influence of Artemisia herba-alba extract on pancreas and liver of diabetic male rats Candidate: Ahmed Fathy Hassan Mohammed Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common worldwide chronic disease affecting the liver. DM induced chronic complication in different organs especially the liver and pancreas. Artemisia herba-alba (AHA), is commonly used as therapeutic plant against several chronic diseases. The present study aimed to investigate the oral hypoglycaemic activity of AHA extract in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic male albino rats and investigating its underlying oxidative stress, hepatocytes apoptosis and liver fibrosis mechanism, as well as to evaluate the antibacterial activities against six multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogenic bacterial species. 60 Adult male albino rats randomly divided into 4 groups each 15: group 1; control, group 2; STZ induced diabetes, group 3; were given AHA (50 mg/kg body weight) and later injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of STZ, group 4; diabetic rats treated by AHA (50 mg/kg body weight) orally for 21 days. rats were sacrificed at the end of the experiment, Blood glucose, C-peptide, serum insulin, α-l-fucosidase (AFU), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were evaluated. |
