Abstract This study was achieved to investigate the effect of organic farming on some morphometric and biologicalproperties of honeybee drones. The results showed that there were 4 wing characters reflected significant directional asymmetry (DA) in drones reared under traditional conditions, but none of them showed any significant DA in drones reared under organic farming. On contrary, most of the measured characters showed an insignificant increase in fluctuating asymmetry (FA) in drones reared under organic farming in comparison with drones under traditional one. The number of sperms increased in newly emerged drones reared under traditional farming in comparison with those in organic farming, while it increased significantly in 8 and 14 days drones reared under organic farming. The difference between sperm number in newly emerged and 8 days drones was significant, but it was insignificant between 8 and 14 days drones in both agriculture groups. Concerning the percentage of mature drones, the results showed a significant increase in those reared under traditional conditions in 14 days drones but insignificant in 8 days,in comparison with those reared under organic conditions. For both groups, the percentage of mature drones of 14 days drones was significantly higher than those of 8 days. Also, a significant increase in the longevity of drones reared under organic farming was registered. The number of sperms in spermatheca of queen mated with drones reared under organic farming was significantly higher than those reared under traditional conditions. Lastly, the amount of drone brood area, however, showed a significant increase in colonies maintained under traditional conditions in comparison with those in organic ones. |
