Abstract Bilingualism is nowadays very important issue as it helps getting the benefits of Globalization. Previous researches have been carried out to compare between bilingual and monolingual children speaking languages other than Arabic. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of early second language acquisition (English) on the native language development (Arabic) and to detect the major Influential variables associated with the introduction of the second language in normal Egyptian preschool children. Subjects and Methods: 100 normal Egyptian preschool children aged between 4.5-5 years were divided into two groups and subjected to the protocol of Arabic language assessment, narrative skills evaluation and two questionnaires for parents and teachers. Results: The results revealed that exposed children to English showed lower expressive scores and less developed narrative skills than non exposed children. Paternal education & early exposure to English in preschool nursery are the most influencing variables at home environment. |
