Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the highest cause of cancer mortality in women worldwide. Objective: This study{u2019}s aim was to find the relation between expression of BRCA-IRIS gene in patients with metastatic breast cancer and the different correlated clinical and pathological characters of the disease. Methods: This study follows metastatic breast cancer patients with available paraffin blocks during the year 2010 in the National Cancer Institute of Egypt. Results: The study included (60) Egyptian female patients. The mean age of the subjects was 48.4 years. Of the patients, 32 show overexpression of BRCA-IRIS gene and 28 patients show normal expression of BRCA-IRIS gene; HER2 and PFS were the only statistically significant correlated factors to BRCA-IRIS overexpression. Conclusion: BRCA-IRIS gene overexpression is a poor prognostic factor and triggers aggressive breast tumor formation
