Abstract On the vicinity of Um Bogma area, West central Sinai, tremendous unexploited raw materials that could assist much in the technology advancing of Egypt. Many samples were collected from the outcropping strata in Um Bogma area as well as from some working quarries, whereas great reserves of white sandstones, dolomites, limestones, feldspars, kaolin, gypsum and ironstones extend along broad areas in Um Bogma which add a great importance to the future of this area for glass, ceramic, cements and many other industries. These samples were subjected to intensive laboratory investigations using different techniques such as XRF, XRD, SEM-EDS, microscopic examination and Raman spectroscopy in order to manipulate cheap and overlooked glass materials to reduce the cost and to produce compatible quality commodities. Cost reduction of glass batch leads to increase the chances of competition between the companies in local and international markets. |
