Abstract Background : The role of IGFBP-5 in human breast cancer is very complex and is not completely understood. Although the apoptotic potential of IGFBP-5 has been studied extensively, there is still no consensus about whether IGFBP-5 induces apoptosis or promotes cell survival. Aim of study : was to detect the level of IGFBP- 5 in metastatic and non metastatic breast cancer patients and to study the possible association between (IGF-BP 5) and VEGF in different stages of breast cancer. Results: The level of IGFBP-5 was higher in non metastatic breast cancer patients compared to metastatic patients, we also found higher VEGF expression in metastatic breast cancer patients rather than non metastatic patients, these results were statistically significant. Conclusion: IGFBP-5 might play role in breast cancer as proapoptotic, antiangiogenic protein and can suppress angiogenesis through decreased VEGF gene expression, so decrease metastasis in breast cancer patients |
