Abstract Sepsis is a complex disease with multiple severe consequences on the patient and on the medical health system. Numerous sepsis biomarkers are available for diagnosis and prognosis however, they have low to moderate sensitivity and specificity. In the present study, serum IL-6 concentration was measured using ELISA, while serum microRNA 15a was measured by qRT-PCR. Both serum IL-6 and miRNA 15a were found to be upregulated in sepsis patients compared to non-sepsis patients admitted to the medical ICU. Moreover, miRNA 15a showed high sensitivity and specificity as a diagnostic biomarker for sepsis |
