Abstract Purpose: to evaluate the efficacy of resistance exercises on muscle wasting in hemodialysis patients. Subjects & Methods:- This study was carried out on Thirty patients (18 males & 12 females) suffering from chronic renal failure treated by hemodialysis, they were randomly divided into two equal groups each one had 15 patients, group (A): This group included 15 chronic renal failure patients treated by hemodialysis and received only the routine physical therapy program (Passive range of motion; Active range of motion; Active-assistive range of motion; Stretching exercises) for lower limb muscles during dialysis sessions. group B (study group): This group included 15 chronic renal failure patients treated by hemodialysis and received resistance exercises for the lower limb muscles during dialysis time, their ages were ranged from 30 to 50 years. Results:- Results showed that application of the resistance exercises for the lower limb muscles during dialysis for 8 weeks had a valuable effects in improving muscle wasting in hemodialysis patients as evidenced by the highly significant increases of the 6 minutes’ walk test in meters and highly significant decreases of the sit to stand test in seconds. Conclusion: Application of the resistance exercises for the lower limb muscles during dialysis time in chronic renal failure had a valuable effects in improving muscle wasting in hemodialysis patients as manifested by the highly increases in the 6 minutes’ walk test (6 MWT) in meters and highly significant decreases in the sit to stand test (SST) in seconds |
