Abstract Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by certain features affect children’s daily living skills and their parents’ self-efficacy level. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of training program on autistic children’s daily living skills and their parents’ self-efficacy level. A quasi -experimental design was utilized to fulfill the aim of the study. A purposive sample of thirty autistic children and their parents were recruited from private autistic health care center in Beni-Suef city, Egypt. Three tools were used to conduct the current study, structured interviewing questionnaire for autistic children and their parents includes (demographic, medical, knowledge and practice). Daily living skills scale for autistic children and Self-efficacy scale for parents with autistic children. The study results revealed that, 13% of autistic children parents had satisfactory knowledge level at preprogram compared to70% & 73.30% of parents had satisfactory knowledge level during immediate and 3 months after program respectively. In addition, 10% of autistic children parents had satisfactory practice level at preprogram compared to 60% & 66.7% of parents had satisfactory practice level during immediate and 3 months after program respectively. Moreover, no one of autistic children had high DLS level at preprogram compared to 30% & 56% of children have high DLS level during immediate and 3 months after program respectively. Also no one of autistic children parents had high self-efficacy level at preprogram compared to 33.3%&41.5% of parents have high self-efficacy level during immediate and 3 months after program respectively. Finding also, revealed that there was a highly statistically significant difference between pre, immediate & 3 months after the program regarding over all mean score of daily living skills, parental self-efficacy. Additionally, there was statistically significant difference between pre, immediate & 3 months after the program regarding over all mean score of parental knowledge and practice. In conclusion, DLS training program significantly improve DLS level of autistic children and enhancing knowledge, practice and self-efficacy level for their parents at immediate and 3 months after program implementation compared to pre-program. The study recommended to apply DLS training program for ASD children and their parents in private/governmental health care facilities and further research should be recommended with larger sample for different age groups. |
