Abstract
Cardiac arrhythmia is a serious condition can lead to fatal forms of rhythm disturbance. Critical care nurse plays a vital role in arrhythmias management specializes in symptomatic relief, promotion of comfort and taking crisis activity in fatal dysrhythmias. Aim: to evaluate the effect of an educational program regarding cardiac arrhythmias on nurses’ knowledge and practice in critical care units. Design: A quasi-experimental design was applied. Setting: This study was carried out at Critical Care Units in Egypt of Healthcare Authority hospitals (Elsalam hospital, Alhayah hospital and Alzhoor central hospital) in Port Said Governorate in Egypt. Subjects: Convenience available nurses (139) nurses at critical care units 116 female and 23 males were included in this study. Tools of data collection: In this study two tools were used for data collection: I). A self administered questionnaire included personal and work-related data and Nurses’ knowledge questions. II) Nurses’ Practice observational checklists. Results: The results revealed that, there was high statistically significant difference of total knowledge and practice score between pre and immediately post program implementation. Also, among pre & follow up program implementation. In addition, there was statistically significant correlation between total nurses’ knowledge score and their total practices score immediately post program implementation and follow up. Conclusion: The educational program for nurses had a significant positive effect on nurses’ knowledge, and practice regarding cardiac arrhythmias.
