Abstract Background: Peripheral nerve blocks are commonly used as sole anesthetic for surgical procedure However, insufficient nerve block is an important factor for decreased patient satisfaction Therefore, early detection of block failure would allow application of rescue techniques in the proper time which improve patient satisfaction and save time in the operating theater Methods : A prospective observational study was conducted in Cairo University Hospital, We included consecutive adult (18-65 years) patients, scheduled for elective upper limb procedure under ultrasound-guided supraclavicular blockelective upper limb procedure under ultrasound-guided supraclavicular block. Result : We evaluated the ability the thermal imaging to detect the success of SCB at different nerve segments and found that it can accurately detect patients with successful block. Our results showed excellent negative predictive value for thermal imaging at 10 min in block failure (98-100%) while its positive predictive value was low. |
