Abstract Carnitine is an amino acid derivative which is an essential cofactor of fatty acid metabolism. Carnitine supplementation is used for the management of both primary and secondary carnitine deficiencies. L-carnitine is the biologically active form. L-carnitine is hygroscopic, a fact which presents difficulties in its formulation into tablets including poor flowability, sticking to punches, production of weaker tablets, high ejection forces during tablet compression and poor stability. This work comprises trials to reduce hygroscopicity of the drug to solve its manufacturing associated problems. |
