Abstract

AMD is the leading cause of visual impairment in the elderly and their mimickers that resemble any abnormal macula in any age .
OCT is a noninvasive imaging technique that provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina, retinal nerve fi-ber layer and the optic nerve head.
FAF imaging is a noninvasive technique that can acquire a topographic map of the lipofuscin distribution in the RPE cells.
This study was done on 60 patients aged 20 years or more;
• These patients already diagnosed to have age AMD either dry or wet form or their mimickers by fundus examination .These pa-tients were collected from the outpatient clinic of ophthalmology department, Beni-Suef University Hospitals and other places.
• All selected patients were submitted to full ophthalmological examination and were investigated with Color fundus photog-raphy, OCT, FAF.
• The ages of patients ranged from 20 to 82 years old, Most of them were females (73.3%) and the rest were males (26.7%).
• The female to male ratio among studied patients was 73% to 26.7%, Women tend to have higher prevalence rates than men.
• The commonents lesion among the studied patients was myopic active CNV (28.3%) followed by mimickers of dry AMD (26.7%), then dry AMD (13.3%).
• This study was performed to correlate the role of OCT in diagno-sis of different types of lesions of AMD and their Mimickers and correlate these finding with the finding of FAF.
• Several distinct patterns of FAF abnormalities were observed in the patients with AMD, dry AMD mimickers and wet AMD mim-ickers.
• FAF provides the opportunity to evaluate the retinal anatomical status. Since OCT obtains a detailed picture of the retinal anato-my, several studies have evaluated the structure/function in pa-tients with AMD and its mimickers and correlated the two tech-niques.
• There was a significant association between OCT and autofluorescence findings as in cases of AMD group, most of macular dystrophies, dry AMD mimickers and most of Wet AMD mimickers except myopic CNV.
