Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) is a new arising technology that aims to connect billions of devices everywhere and anytime around the world over the internet. These devices collect and share data with each other to complete tasks automatically without human intervention. However, one of the primary challenges facing IoT is energy resource reservation and efficient consumption, especially in those types of applications that require nonstop monitoring or suffer from lacking ongoing energy resources. This thesis proposes a fuzzy logic-based approach for temperature and humidity monitoring systems to reduce the amount of energy consumed during data packets exchange between these systems and their control room’s servers in IoT environment. The proposed approach controls the data transmission process based on several surrounded environment parameters unlike the traditional approach of data transmission that transmit all data regardless of the ambient circumstances. The experimental results on the Appliances Energy Prediction dataset show that the proposed fuzzy-based approach successfully reduces the energy consumption compared to the traditional approach in temperature and humidity monitoring systems by 11.8 % |
