Abstract

Benzoylacetone, Acetoacetanilide, and Ethyl benzoylacetate were
used as key starting compounds which underwent a series of heterocyclization reactions to give Pyran, Pyrazole, Pyridine, Thiazole, Thiophene,
and Aryl hydrazone derivatives. The multi-component reactions of the starting
1,3 diketones compounds with the aromatic aldehydes produced the pyran
derivatives. The Gewald’s reaction of the 1,3 diketones with elemental sulfur
and malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate yielded the thiophene derivatives,
Evaluation of the synthesized products were carried against eight Cancer cell
lines, A549 ( non-small cell lung cancer), H460 (human lung cancer), HT29
(human colon cancer), MKN-45 ( human gastric cancer), U87MG ( human
glioma) and SMMC-7721 (Protein profile of human hepatocarcinoma) cancer
cell lines together with Foretinib as the positive control by a MTT assay, while
the HepG2 (Hepatocellular carcinoma) and HeLa (Cervical carcinoma) cancer
cell lines together with Doxorubicin as the positive control, the most cytotoxic
compounds against these cell lines were selected for further screening against
other cancer cell lines.
