Abstract Degree: PhD in Science (Geophysics) The structural setting of Egypt was delineated using integrated geological, seismicity, and potential field data. Egypt is affected by three important tectonic elements; the subduction at the eastern Mediterranean, Red Sea rift, and Temsah and Erasthosene faults in addition to numerous local tectonic activities in Beni Suef, Faiyum, Aswan, and Abu Dabbab. The historical seismicity of Egypt is presented beside important instrumental earthquakes as well. Egypt was subdivided into 12 major seismotectonic provinces; each with its own seismicity parameters while western Egypt is regarded as neutral seismicity. The iso-acceleration contour map for Egypt was derived from intensity values using the Richter conversion technique. |
