Abstract The present study was carried out to evaluate and compare the effect of three different enamel etching techniques (laser, sandblasting and phosphoric acid) and two different bonding agents (transbond XT and ortho solo stick primers) on the SBS of bondable molar tubes. In addition, the effect of those different etching techniques on the buccal enamel surfaces were investigated by both the naked eye and the scanning electron microscope. A sample of sixty six sound human first molar teeth, freshly extracted for periodontal problems were collected, cleaned and mounted in acrylic blocks for shear bond strength testing. The total sample was equally divided into three main groups according to the etching technique used. Two out of each group were kept aside after performing the etching technique to be examined under scanning electron microscope. Each group was furtherly subdivided into two sub groups of ten teeth each according to the type of the bond primer used (transbond XT or ortho solo stick primer) |
