Abstract All cases of lung consolidation confirmed by CT chest excluding cases of acute pneumonia. All cases were subjected to FOB, TBLB and BAL. Undiagnosed cases by TBLB were evaluated by further investigations till diagnosis was established. Results: Thirty patients were enrolled in the study. Unresolving pneumonia was the most common etiology (46.7%) with klebsiella and acinetobacter were the most common causative agents and malignancy was the second most common etiology (33.2%), the diagnostic yield of TBLB in lung consolidation was 76.7% and 23.3% of cases were undiagnosed by TBLB and were subjected to further investigations till diagnosis was established. Conclusion : Fiberoptic bronchoscopy and TBLB can be successfully employed for the diagnosis of unresolving lung consolidation. TBLB seems to be a useful and safe procedure allowing obtaining histological pulmonary specimens. It is of high diagnostic value in lung consolidation (76.7%) of cases therefore it should be considered to be a routine diagnostic procedure before thoracoscopic or open lung biopsy |
