Abstract The immunosuppressive drugs, utilized widely in Egypt, so cyclosporine A was studied to evaluate its toxicity in male rats. Animals were divided into a control (untreated),3 groups treated interaperitoneally with 20, 40 and 60 m/kg cyclosporine A for 5, 10 and 15 days, respectively and 3 groups treated interaperitoneally with 20,40 and 60mg/kg of cyclosporine A plus 100mg/kg royal jelly administrated orally. Toxicity evaluation was carried out using three main endpoints: cytogenetic studies (chromosomal aberrations using rats bone marrow); reproductive study (sperm morphology and count abnormalities) and biochemical changes in liver and testis (DNA contents). The statistical analysis revealed that cyclosporine A treatment with the three treatments for three times schedules have induced a significant increase in chromosomes abnormalities in the somatic cells. Moreover, a significant increase in sperm head and tail abnormalities as well as a significant decrease in the total sperm cells count was observed in all cyclosporine A treated groups |
