المستخلص

Peripheral arterial disease is characterized by a gradual reduction in blood flow to one or more limbs secondary to atherosclerosis. Diabetes is one of the important risk factors for peripheral arterial disease. The aim of the present study was to clarify gender and diabetic differences in lesion distribution, based on angiographic findings in subjects presenting with chronic lower limb ischemia in an Egyptian population. This study included one hundred and five patients who were referred to the radiology department, Cairo university Hospitals (Kasr Alaini) from the surgery department with suspected lower limb arterial disease. All were bipeds and had complete angiograms from aorta to pedal vessels. None had undergone previous surgery or angioplasty. The data were collected between May 2013 and April 2014. There were 83 males and 22 females with a ratio of 4 : 1. Female patients presented with a slightly older mean age than males at 60.86 versus 56.96 years respectively. Bilateral disease was more common in females than males, with a ratio of 4.6 for males and 6 for females
