Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of exposure of acupuncture points (APs) to low intensity polarized (P) light in reducing post mastectomy pain. Forty five female patients who have post mastectomy pain were randomly divided into three equal groups in number: group (1): 15 patients who received placebo treatment. group (2): 15 patients who received conventional TENS only on APs. group (3): 15 patients who received polarized (P) light and conventional -+TENS over APs. Pain was evaluated by using visual analogue scale (VAS), and serum cortisol level (SCL), after one month and after two months of treatment. The physical therapy program began within the first 4 months after surgery for all groups. The treatment applied 3 times weekly for two months for all groups. patients in experimental groups received TENS over acupionts 3 times weekly with duration of 20 min for each session and polarized light over acupoints 3 times weekly with duration of 10 min for each session |
