Abstract The aim of the present study is to investigate the biological effect of exposure to combined fields of magnetic (0.5 Gauss) and fast neutrons (10æSV/h). For this purpose 100 adult male albino rats of average weight 180 ±20 g and average age of 5 ± 0.5 months were divided into five equal groups. At the end of each experiment, the animals were sacrificed and the bone of tibia were removed and subjected to the following investigation: scanning electron microscope, Bone density measurement, atomic absorption technique, FTIR technique, collagen cross-linking, protein content and bone crystallinity and Mechanical testing of bone. The results indicate a highly significance decrease in the concentration level of Ca, Cu, Mg, & Zn after exposure to either magnetic field, or fast neutrons and to mixed fields of both. Also, a change in the mineral content, collagen cross-linking, protein content and crystallinity of the bone is observed. Such result is supported by the significance decrease in the bone density |
