Abstract Brain And Acute Leukemia Cytoplasmic (BAALC) gene over-expression has been reported in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In the present study, BAALC overexpression was investigated by reverse transcriptase- real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in 48 patients with de novo AML.CD34 expression were also analyzed by immunophenotyping. BAALC over-expression was detected in (50%) of the patients while CD34 was positive in (54.3%).In high BAALC expressers patients, was associated with female sex predominance than low BAALC expressers patients and the difference reach a statistically significant level. High BAALC expression was significantly associated with higher blast percentage in peripheral blood. BAALC over-expression was seen in FAB subtypes MO, M1, M2, M4 and M5 mostly with M1 and M2 and was associated with statistically significant difference between high and low BAALC expressers as regard induction chemotherapy |
