Abstract Henoch Schonlein Purpura (HSP) is the most common cutaneous vasculitis in children comprising up to 90% of cases. It is an immunoglobulin A (IgA) mediated small-sized vessel vasculitis that affects mainly the skin, joints, gastrointestinal tract and kidneys and occasionally other organs. It is primarily a childhood disease. It is a self-limited disease. Severe renal involvement is the major long-term detrimental prognostic factor. Aim of work: The aim of this study was to illustrate the epidemiological features of HSP in children following at rheumatology clinic, to study the clinical characteristics of HSP, to study the frequency of occurrence of different symptoms and signs of HSP and to detect the prevalence of recurrence and its relation to laboratory abnormalities and onset of treatment. Patients and methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 100 children with HSP following at rheumatology clinic, Children hospital, Cairo University. Data were collected from the files of patients who have HSP and started to attend the rheumatology clinic for follow up from January 2009 through December 2013 |
