Abstract

This study was carried out, to establish an efficient protocol for rapid direct plant reeneration of Artocarpus heterophyllus L. Best sterilization conditions were observed when shoot tip and nodal segment explants were surface sterilized by immersion in 30% clorox solution or in mercuric chloride at 0.2%. For multiplication stage, MS medium supplemented with 5.0 mg/l BA plus 2.0 mg/l Kin gave the best result for shootlets number., gave the best result for the increase in shootlets length. Obtained shootlets were induced to roots and MS medium fortified with 1.0 mg/l IBA and 1.0 mg/l NAA gave the best result for roots number/plant, root length and rooted shoots %. Rooted plantlets were acclimatized to greenhouse condition with 100% transplant survival; moreover, successful ex vitro growth (about 70%) was achieved on peatmoss and sand at the ratio of 1:1(v/v)
