Abstract

The current study aimed to study circulating CoQ10 level in coronary artery disease patients undergoing coronary angiography and assess its relation to disease severity. The relation of Galectin-3 and MDA is also studied. The present study is conducted on two groups of subjects based on cardiac catheterization: 1. Patients group: 50 subjects with positive coronary angiography finding; obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD). This group comprised of 38 male (76.0%) and 12 female (24.0%) and their mean age is 59.10 ± 10.81. 2. Control group: 39 subjects with normal coronary angiography (NCA). This group comprised of 23 male (59.0%) and 16 female (41.0%) and their mean age is 55.69 ± 8.79. Both groups were subjected to clinical examination, routine laboratory investigation, creatinine, fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, MDA & serum assay of CoQ10 and Galectin-3 by ELISA kit. Our results revealed: CAD cases had significantly higher frequency of hypertension and median BMI value. CAD cases had significantly higher frequency of unstable angina, old MI and median EF. Statistically significantly higher levels of TLC, TC, TG, LDL-cholesterol, TC/HDL and LDL/HDL in CAD group compared to NCA group. On the other hand, hemoglobin and HDL-cholesterol are significantly decreased in CAD group compared to NCA group. CoQ10 is significantly reduced in CAD group compared to NCA group. On the other hand, both Galectin-3 and MDA are significantly elevated in CAD group compared to NCA group. CoQ10 is significantly reduced in high syntax group compared to low and intermediate groups. On the other hand, both MDA and galectin-3 are significantly elevated in high syntax group compared to low and intermediate groups. Gensini score is significantly elevated in high syntax group compared to low syntax group.
