Abstract

Assertiveness becomes a skill determinant of effective interpersonal relationships and its effects on head nurses’ competency. Moreover, assertive head nurses are able to challenge unsafe practices, talk out and defend for their own interests and personal rights even if they do not completely prefer or align with others, but also expanded that to protect staff nurses, rights, security, and welfare, have specialized expertise and abilities to resolve disputes and more successfully accomplish organizational goals.. Therefore, head nurses should have mastery of the verbal and non-verbal styles of assertiveness, be activeoriented, use assertiveness in the workplace on a daily basis as a habit, control anxiety and fear, and have a high level of assertiveness relating to staff nurses and negotiation strategies. (37) Undoubtedly, assertiveness is a quality determinant in all affirmative and profitable relationships in appreciation of head nurses worth, importance, and high self-esteem that lead to high quality and competent decisions making abilities. So, the immediate study sought to establish the association between the assertiveness of head nurses and their capacity for making decisions at Tanta University Hospitals.
