Abstract In this study, radiation shielding efficiency of tellurium lead-borated glass composites with molar composition 50 H3BO3 - 10 Na2CO3 - (40-x) TeO2 - x PbO (where x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mol %) was studied at wide energy range from 0.015-15 MeV. The existence of BO3, BO4, TeO3, and TeO4 structural units was verified by FTIR spectroscopy. Experimental determination of the mass attenuation coefficients (µm); of all the prepared glasses and the corresponding theoretical values were carried out. The exposure build-up factors (EBF) of the prepared glasses are determined using the Geometric Progression (G-P) approximation. Fast neutron removal cross sections ranged from 0.135 to 0.145 cm−1 for the variation of PbO concentrations 0-20 mol % are obtained. Comparison with the previously prepared glasses indicated that the prepared tellurium lead-borate glass composite in this study has more enhanced shielding properties for making an efficient transparent gamma-ray and neutron shield. |
