Abstract Scars represent a fibrous tissue which replaces normal tissue after exposure to injuries, wounds, and some diseases. No two injuries are alike. Scars are usually benign in nature; however, they are able to cause major problems either esthetic, functional, or social problems. The most common three types of scars are atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloid scars.Atrophic scars are flat or depressed below the surrounding skin due to deficiency of collagen and other fibrous tissue. There are several therapeutic modalities for treatment of atrophic scars such as laser techniques, subcision, dermabrasion, micro needling, punch excisions, and fillers. Each treatment method may not completely eliminate the scar, other need repeated sessions to provide the best result. |
