Abstract Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common adult lymphoid malignancy and has an estimated worldwide incidence of 150,000 new cases per year (218). The median age at first diagnosis is about 70 years and between 50% and 60% of all patients are cured with rituximab-based chemo immunotherapy in the first-line setting (218). Malignancy and inflammation are closely linked. Inflammatory processes have been identified to play an important role in the pathogenesis of lymphoma (7, 8 & 9). Obesity and cancer have been linked in a cause-and-effect relationship as supported by several reports; however, this association might be attributed by several molecular and biological mechanisms which are not fully explicated (26). |
