Abstract Triage is the process of prioritizing patients based on the acuity of the problem to take the best treatment in the shortest possible time. It includes brief and focused assessment and patient allocation to an acuity level, which determines the length of time a patient can safely wait for therapeutic screening examination and treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of implementation of Obstetrical Triage Acuity Scale (OTAS) in hypertension with pregnancy at emergency department of Menoufia university hospital. This study included 20 pregnant patients presented to Emergency Department of Menoufia University. All patients were subjected to: 1. History taking. 2. Triaging and Assessment of the patients by using Obstetrical Triage Acuity Scale (OTAS). 3. Investigations. 4. The OTAS score was calculated in each patient. 5. The outcome of each patient was recorded. SUMMARY Discussion 93 The results of this study within the limitations of this study shown that: - The mean age of our patients was (29.30 ±7.3). - The most common complaints were headache and visual disturbances, which were reported by 55% of the patients. - It was found that, increased BP was reported in 80% of cases at presentation (>140/90), and a normal blood pressure was recorded in 20% of participants. - There was a highly- significant association between hypertension and acuity level of the patients in OTAS as p value = 0.004. - There were a highly - significant effect of OTAS level and the outcomes of the patients as p value < 0.001. - Regarding the time of stay in ED, the more time the patient spent was 4 h, observed clearly with less urgent and non-urgent groups, and there was non-significant effect of acuity level of the patient on LOS in ED. - The overall mortality rate was 10%, which was significantly related with ICU admission. |
