Abstract The stresses included in subcondylar fracture and fixed by two fixation miniplates schemes were evaluated in this study using finite element analysis. Ready made three dimensional model of human mandible file format constructed on workbench SolidWorks software program, the model was manipulated to mimic a true subcondylar fracture. Then placement of fixation miniplates and tightening of the screws . Two models were used in this study: Model 1 : the subcondylar fracture was fixed by two four holes 2.0 miniplates placed with monocortical screws one at the anterior border and second at posterior border of subcondylar area. Model 2: the subcondylar fracture was fixed by delta plate four holes with monocortical screws, the base of delta placed inferiorly while apex directed superiorly towards condylar head. The computer models presented to Ansys workbench program for stress analysis, result of this study showed that delta plate design has accepted result in relation to the interfragmentary motion in comparison to two miniplates. And the application of delta plate for stable osteosynthesis of subcondylar fractures ensures fully satisfactory treatment result. |
