Abstract The present study was carried out at a private poultry farm under the supervision of the Department of animal production, faculty of agriculture, Tanta University, during the periods from January to February 2022, to study the effect of dietary supplementation of willow (Salix babylonica L.) leaves extract on growth performance, carcass traits, blood parameters, antioxidants indices, caecal microbial population, and economical efficiency of broiler chickens. The extract preparation and chemical analyses of willow leaves extract (WLE) were performed in the Laboratory of Food Analysis Center, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Banha University. Chicks were fed on starter and grower diets from 7 – 21 and 22 - 35 days of age, respectively. The first treatment served as the control group and birds were fed with a basal diet without supplementation (T1). The second to fourth treatments were prepared by mixing the willow leaves extract into the basal diet at the level of 150 mg /kg diet (T2), 300 mg /kg diet (T3) or 450 mg /kg diet (T4). |
