Abstract

While some have observed negative consequences of increasing endometrial thickness at which pregnancy is unlikely to occur, others have claimed that lower endometrial thickness (endometrial compaction) is directly connected to the outcome of pregnancy.
The hypothesis posits that the endometrial thickness change from the day of trigger to the day of embryo transfer may have a greater predictive value for the result of pregnancy than the endometrial thickness measured exactly on the day of embryo transfer.
In particular, we postulated that while the endometrium thickens (becomes hyperechoic on ultrasonography) due to progesterone-induced secretory changes, the endometrial thickness should decrease throughout the natural or artificial luteal phase.
In order to assess the effect of endometrial compaction on pregnancy outcomes in patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection consisting of fresh embryo transfer following ovarian hyperstimulation using antagonist protocol, this study was carried out.
from January to July 2023, this prospective observational cohort research was carried out at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Maternal Shatby Hospital’s IVF-ICSI unit, Alexandria University, and other Alexandria IVF-ICSI clinics.
86 patients were split into three groups for this study: group A contained 22 women with a >5% compacted endometrium; group B included 31 women with an increased endometrial thickness; group C included 29 women with no changes in endometrial thickness; and 4 cases were canceled with the same inclusion and exclusion criteria because of high progesterone levels on the day of embryo transfer. A comparison was made between the various research groups regarding the effects of endometrial compaction on the rates of implantation, clinical, continuing, and biochemical pregnancy and loss.
