Abstract Actinomycetes are prolific producers of a wide range of natural bioactive compounds due to their environmental diversity and consequently, their metabolic potential. They are one of the most diverse groups of microorganisms in nature that are scattered throughout the aquatic and terrestrial environments. Forty-five actinomycetes isolates were recovered from cultivated soils, plants rhizosphere and industrial wastewaters at Suez governorate. Forty-five of actinomycetes extracts were investigated for their antimicrobial activities against bacterial cultures: Staphylococcus aureus, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa also against fungal culture: Aspergillus fumigatus, Fusarium solani and Penicillium chrysogenum. Seven actinomycetes extracts, which had strong antimicrobial activities, were selected for investigating their anticancer activities against colon Caco-2 and liver HepG2 carcinoma cell lines using MTT assay which was applied at Vacsera Center Cairo, Egypt. The most cytotoxic actinomycetes extracts were subjected to GC-mass analysis. The extracts exhibited a high concentration of oxygenated and phenolic constituents. These results illustrate the antimicrobial and anticancer activities of actinomycetes isolates. SUN1, SUN25, SUN35 and SUN43 actinomycetes isolates were genetically identified as Streptomyces rochei SUN1 OR492301, Streptomyces werraensis SUN25 OR492300, Streptomyces rochei SUN35 OR492299 and Nocardiopsis dassonvillei SUN43 OR492302. |
