Abstract

Rabies is considered a deadly common disease between humans and animals, and the cause of most deaths among humans is due to biting by dogs. The first part of this study aimed to evaluate the extent of knowledge and practices related to rabies in the New Valley Governorate by conducting a questionnaire among 213 people from the New Valley Governorate. The results of this questionnaire showed that most of the participants had a high degree of awareness of rabies at a rate of 93.89%, and that 30 % of participants knew most of the symptoms, while 17.8% only knew three symptoms and 5.63% did not know what the symptoms were. Survey results showed that 30% of participants knew that the primary method of transmitting rabies is dog bites. In addition, 53.84% of participants who own pets were vaccinated against rabies.
